Northwest Corridor
RTD's Fastracks is coming to the Northwest Corridor. The Northwest Corridor runs from Denver's Union Station to Boulder via existing railroad tracks through Westminster, Broomfield, Lafayette, and Louisville to a new station at 30th and Pearl in Boulder. From there is runs through Boulder and Niwot north to Longmont along the existing freight tracks along the Diagonal/Highway 119.
RTD's Role
RTD will be using the existing freight rail tracks for Diesel Multiple Units (not light rail) through the corridor. The freight trains will be sharing the tracks with new commuter rail. These new commuter trains will run all day long, at times up to four trains per hour at each crossing, meaning the freight trains will most likely be shifted to run at night.

Although city council must apply for the quiet zone status, RTD will be in charge of the project to convert the rail line and possibly add the safety features required for quiet zone crossings. So please contact RTD and let them know you are in favor of quiet zones.
Quiet Zones
If quiet zones are not implemented by our cities, nearby homes, businesses and open space will experience loud train horns at all hours of the day and night. Please join us in urging your city council to apply for, fund, and implement quiet zones for Boulder and beyond!
